Alaska - Frozen in Time

Last August, mother and son Littleton residents, Sunny and Bob Sandock, spent two glorious, heart-capturing weeks hiking, rafting, and boating in the wilderness of Alaska. Featured in the show are several of Bob's trip photographs of the majestic landscape, seascape and wildlife. Sunny's stained glass creations are an interpretation of some of Bob's photos and their experiences.

The Garden Show
Garden in the Gallery April 5 - May 30, 2008

To celebrate Spring, Handworks Gallery will be having it's annual "Garden in the Gallery" sculpture show from April 5 through May 30. We plant a garden in the center of the gallery with bark mulch, moss and flowering plants to create an environment for the display of garden sculptures, birdbaths and fountains.

It's fun to see the surprise on people's faces when they see the garden as they come in the front door. The pieces in the show range from whimsical to serious sculpture. This Spring, among the many artists represented, we will feature standing steel structures by Whitmore Boogaerts, Ray Ciemny, & Francis Vega.

Josh Simpson Show

Josh Simpson

The works of Josh Simpson, master glass blower, are currently being featured at Handworks Gallery. Josh's work is in the permanent collection of the Corning Glass Museum, the Smithsonian and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as museums all over the world. Featured in our show are his inhabited vases, irridescent vases, tektites, bowls and planets. Available in ten sizes, some of the planets are larger than we have ever had before. In February, after the show ends, we will continue to carry an expanded collection of Josh's work.

Expressions of Love

Photo: My Neighbor, Mary
Porcelain sculpture by Nancy Craemer

This is an exhibit of individual works by New England artists and craftspeople (mostly very local) that embody the spirit of Valentine's Day. Each piece in the show was made for a loved one or to honor or remember a loved one. The artists have shared the stories behind these pieces and those stories are displayed with each piece. Together they let us experience these expressions of love. From very talented professional artists to the younger less experienced participants, all the work is elevated by the love that inspired the labor.

None of these pieces is for sale. (Handworks does have other Valentine gifts made by American craftspeople available for sale.) We solicit submissions for this juried show from artists and craftspeople and anyone who has created a gift that was a labor of love. This is our thirteenth annual "Expressions of Love". We hope you will attend.

Once again, Handworks will hold a one-day only sale of dinged and discontinued items. Dinged items might have a slight blemish, scratch, or chip but nothing which inhibits the functionality of the pieces. Discontinued items are the few remaining pieces we have from artists that we no longer carry or from works that artists no longer produce. All items in the sale will be 70% off the original retail price and all sales will be final.

In case of inclement weather, sale will be rescheduled to March 8.

Preview and Early Bidding, Starting September 23

Silent Auction

Vase by Bill Campbell
Thanks to everyone who participated in last year's Silent Auction.

Thanks to everyone who participated in last year's Silent Auction.  It was a big success and we appreciate the donations and the bidders/ buyers. The auction this year will be a little different as all the money will go to the Craft Emergency Relief Fund. CERF is an organization started by craftspeople for craftspeople in need.  CERF helps after natural disasters and personal tragedies to keep craftspeople from losing their businesses.  It helps them get their studios re-opened and working by helping with money for equipment and supplies and counseling for resources and support. We get great items donated by our craftspeople for this event because of our support of CERF.  This year will be better than ever.  We expect one hundred items.
The bidding will be open for 5 days. Bidders must sign up and get a bidder number in order to place anonymous bids. There will be a reception from 12AM to 4PM on Saturday, September 27. With a flurry of excitement, the bidding will finish during the reception at 3:45PM. High bidders do not have to be present at the reception (but do risk being overbid). Come and have fun.  You will leave with wonderful things and you will have helped a very worthy cause.
